The WO Network: Celebrating Three Years of Connection, Community, and Collaboration | Press Release
Louisville, KY – November 2024 – What began as a serendipitous meeting between two passionate entrepreneurs at Startup Week Louisville in September 2022 has transformed into a powerhouse community for women in business.
Holly Hartman and Izzy Nalley, both independently coaching and seeking deeper connections within their local community, discovered a shared vision: creating a transformative space where women could thrive, collaborate, and grow together.
By November 2022, that vision became a reality with the creation of The WO Network: Women Leaders of Louisville. Built on the principles of authenticity, diversity, and collaboration over competition, The WO Network has quickly become a thriving hub for women entrepreneurs, leaders, and change-makers.
Why the Poppy?
At the heart of The WO Network lies the poppy, a symbol of empowerment, growth, collaboration, and community impact. Like the resilient poppy flower, members of the network rise above challenges, growing stronger and lifting each other up as they thrive.
The poppy was chosen for its profound representation of growth—both personally and professionally. Just as a poppy flourishes in a variety of conditions, the women in this network evolve, lead, and create meaningful change, no matter the obstacles they face. This spirit of perseverance, excellence, and achievement is celebrated through The Poppy Awards, which honor women who exemplify these qualities.
The poppy also represents the power of collaboration. A field of poppies blooms most brightly together, just as The WO Network thrives when its members support and empower each other. The Poppy Awards honor not only individual success but also the contributions women make to the growth and success of others within the community.
The poppy is more than a symbol—it is the essence of The WO Network. It reflects a community where women rise together, creating a legacy of empowerment and collaboration that inspires future generations.
A Catalyst for Economic Empowerment
The WO Network isn’t just a community—it’s an engine for economic impact. By empowering women-led businesses, the network fosters innovation, job creation, and local spending that ripple through the Louisville and Southern Indiana economies. Its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) ensures that the benefits are felt across all sectors of the community.
With 85% of members being small business owners, including nonprofits and the remaining percentage of professional leaders, The WO Network has cultivated an ecosystem that champions women entrepreneurs. This year alone, the organization has hosted over 60 events—a balanced mix of in-person and virtual gatherings—providing connection, education, and opportunity for its growing membership.
Louisville’s recognition as the #1 city for women-owned business growth by Louisville Business First (2023) aligns perfectly with the WO Network’s mission to empower women and foster collaboration. With over 80 collaborations facilitated and a steadfast focus on building meaningful partnerships, The WO Network has amplified its role as a driver of innovation and inclusion.
A Thriving and Diverse Community
The WO Network’s growth has been nothing short of extraordinary. Starting with 1,500 members in early 2024, the community has grown to an impressive 2,500 members by November—a testament to its value and impact. In 2024, the introduction of the Poppy Membership, which welcomed over 100 paid members, including 50 Founding Members, marked a significant milestone in the organization’s journey.
Central to its mission is the creation of a safe, inclusive space where women can authentically show up, support one another, and collaborate. The network actively celebrates diversity, with 50% of members identifying as women of color, and intentionally designs events and programs to expand access and opportunity across communities.
Looking Ahead: A Vision for Year Four and Beyond
As The WO Network celebrates its 3rd anniversary, it is already planning exciting initiatives for the future. In 2025, the organization will launch an Advisory Board and Ambassador program, open exclusively to paid Poppy Members through an application-based process. This program will establish a leadership structure that reflects the network’s commitment to intentional growth and inclusion.
Expansion is also on the horizon, with plans to introduce PODS in Lexington and Southern Indiana, extending The WO Network’s reach into new markets while maintaining its strong local roots. Additionally, the network will unveil new membership options for businesses and nonprofits, further enhancing its ability to create impactful connections and opportunities.
A Legacy of Empowerment
The WO Network stands as a testament to what’s possible when women come together with purpose and intention. From its inception to its current success, the community has hosted over 350 events, facilitated life-changing collaborations, and empowered countless women to reach new heights.
“This anniversary isn’t just a celebration of how far we’ve come; it’s a testament to what’s possible when we work together to uplift, inspire, and fuel meaningful change,” said Holly Hartman and Izzy Nalley, co-founders of The WO Network.
As the network moves into its fourth year, the mission remains clear: to create a thriving, collaborative community where women leaders can grow, innovate, and make a lasting impact.
